A QR code menu you can change before service

A menu that changes with the market shouldn't need reprinting. This one has sections, prices, short descriptions and dietary tags, with a nav that stays put as a diner scrolls on their phone. Change a dish before service, and the QR code on the table keeps working.

When to use it

  • Tonight's fish depends on what came in this morning.
  • A food truck's location and dishes change through the week.
  • A cafe wants a cheap second copy of the menu, on top of printed ones.
  • A pop-up has no budget to print for a three-day run.

What a good one includes

  • Sections in the order people eat, so the nav reads like the meal.
  • Few words per dish, leading with what makes it different.
  • Prices on every item, or wording such as 'market price' where it moves.
  • Dietary tags, plus a footer explaining them, as the tags are just letters.
  • A line asking guests to tell staff about allergies.
  • Service times in the intro, particularly if the kitchen closes before the bar.

Make one by saying what you need

Text it, type it or say it, the way you'd tell a colleague:

Menu for Copper Pot tonight: soup $9, roast hake $26, mushroom pie $19 vegetarian, lemon tart $9, kitchen open till 10.

Worth knowing. Tags are only as good as the last time someone checked them. When you swap a dish or a supplier, update its tags at the same moment, and treat 'gf' as a promise about your kitchen, not just the recipe. Allergen labelling is regulated in many places, so check what yours requires. Keep a few printed menus for guests without a phone.

Questions

Can guests order from this menu?

No, it's for reading. For ordering ahead with payment, use the order form.

Does the QR code change when I edit the menu?

No. The code points to the page, so your table cards keep working however often the dishes change.

Do I have to list allergens?

Many countries require allergen information in some form, written or on request. The detail varies, so check with your food authority.
