One phone for the whole season, first thaw to last leaf pickup
The phone starts ringing on the first warm weekend, and you're booked solid before the ground has dried out. From then on your week depends on the forecast, the nursery and how far a wet Tuesday pushes back the route. Come autumn, you still have to sign everyone up for next year.
A working week, in pages
The first warm Saturday
Everybody wants a spring cleanup the same week, and you can't price a single one until you've finished the two you're on. Text a link back to each missed call. Names land on a list with what they want, and you work through it when the mud lets you.
waitlist for spring cleanups from $180: mulch, bed edging, first mow, ask for a phone number
Selling the mowing route
Grass left for two weeks in June is a slower cut than grass cut every week, and a customer looking at the fence line doesn't know that. Show both options side by side, with edging and clippings spelled out. Nobody can then think $45 covered the hedge.
packages for lawn care: weekly $45 a cut, every other week $60 a cut, both with edging and blowing, clippings hauled $10 extra
Stone on the pallet
The patio is a $14,000 job and the bluestone has to be ordered and dropped before you break ground. Ask for the deposit with the start date on it. You don't want to carry the quarry's bill for someone who might still change their mind.
deposit Colin Weir, bluestone patio and steps $14,200, $4,000 to order the stone, start April 21
The nursery is short
The plan calls for twelve Karl Foerster and the nursery has six, plus a similar grass at $4 more a pot. The crew is unloading and the client is at work. One page shows the swap and the price, and you plant with the answer in hand.
approval from Joan Fisk: swap 6 Karl Foerster for Overdam feather reed grass, $24 extra in total
Rain week
The trench is full of water, the digger has gone to another job, and the customer is watching it all from the kitchen window. Keep a status page with each stage and the new finish date, and update it by text from the truck. They stop asking you, because they can check.
status Weir patio, $14,200 job: excavation done, base next, then pavers and planting, rain pushed finish to May 9
Signing them up for next year
The leaves are done and the route goes quiet, which is when contracts lapse without anyone noticing. Write the notice now, with next year's price and what it covers, and schedule it for the date you choose. They renew in one tap.
renewal Dale Moore, lawn care contract ends Nov 30, 12 months, $1,680, was $1,560, weekly April to October
Questions
How much deposit can I ask for on a big install?
That depends on the job and, in some places, on local rules for home improvement contracts, so check yours. The page shows the total, the amount now and the balance. The stone money only comes through the Pay button if your own Stripe is linked.
A neighbour stopped at the trailer and asked to see my work. What can I show them?
A gallery page of before-and-after pairs, with its QR code on the trailer. Add last month's retaining wall to the page and the printed code still works.
Can customers spread a mowing season over regular payments?
Yes. A payment plan sets a fixed number of dated payments, which ends by itself with the season. A membership page bills through Stripe until the customer cancels from their own link, so that suits year-round grounds work better.
