A digital business card with a save-to-contacts button

A paper card ends up in a drawer, and the number on it has to be typed in by hand. This page gives people buttons to call, text, email or save you to their phone's contacts, along with your hours, website and a few links. Its QR code can go on a van, a counter or the back of a printed card.

When to use it

  • A networking event, where you want people to have your details before they walk away.
  • A van or site sign, so a passer-by can save your number from the traffic lights.
  • A team of three or four who each need a card with their own number.
  • A reprint would cost money because your role or phone number changed.

What a good one includes

  • Your name and role, with the business name, so the saved contact makes sense months later.
  • A mobile number, plus a Text button if you do reply to texts.
  • A line on your work and your patch. 'Repairs, boilers and bathrooms across Springfield' jogs a memory.
  • Your hours, which set expectations about when you'll pick up.
  • A couple of useful links, such as prices or reviews.

Make one by saying what you need

Text it, type it or say it, the way you'd tell a colleague:

Contact card for Leo Marsh, owner of Tall Oak Tree Surgery, with mobile, email, website, and a link to our price list.

Worth knowing. Save contact downloads a copy of your details to their phone. If your number changes later, this page updates but those saved copies don't, so keep old numbers working for a while. Test the QR code at the size you'll print it, from the distance people will really be standing.

Questions

Does the other person need an app?

No. They scan the code with their phone camera, or open the link, and the Save contact button downloads a standard contact card.

Should I still carry paper cards?

A small stack does no harm, and printing the QR code on the back gives you both.

Can I change my details after printing?

Yes. The QR code stays the same, and the page shows whatever you last set.
