A class sign-up page that shows the spots left

A sign-up sheet needs to answer three things fast: what is it, when is it, and is there room. This page does that with a live spots-left count, a list of what to bring and a form on the same screen. Once it's full, the form swaps for one that collects names for the next date.

When to use it

  • A workshop has twelve places and you're tracking them on paper.
  • A running club or yoga teacher posts each week's session.
  • A free community talk needs numbers for chairs.
  • A popular class fills fast and you want a record of who missed out.

What a good one includes

  • Date, start time and length, which tell people if they can make it before anything else does.
  • The place, written the way someone would type it into a map.
  • Price per person, or a clear 'Free'.
  • A capacity, because the count of spots left depends on it.
  • What to bring. It saves a flurry of questions the night before.
  • Who's hosting, so a stranger knows who they're signing up with.

Make one by saying what you need

Text it, type it or say it, the way you'd tell a colleague:

Sign-up for a beginners' pottery class at Kiln Street Studio, Saturday June 8, 10am, 2 hours, 8 spots, $55, bring an apron.

Worth knowing. Paying is signing up: the place is held for 30 minutes while the checkout is open, and it's confirmed once paid, so an abandoned checkout gives it back. The free Sign up button still takes a place without payment, so decide what you'll do about people who never turn up. Add a capacity and the server stops at the limit, even when two people go for the last place together.

Questions

Does it stop people signing up when it's full?

Yes, when replies are counted on the page. The form is replaced by a 'this one's full' message and a place to leave details for the next date.

Can one person book for a group?

Yes, if you ask for party size. They can pick up to six, or fewer if fewer spots remain.

Can people add it to their calendar?

Yes. They get an Add to calendar button after signing up.
