A membership or retainer page that bills itself
A membership trades a one-off sale for income that repeats. Customers pick a monthly or yearly plan and subscribe through Stripe checkout, and Stripe then bills them on your own account until they stop. Each member gets a link to cancel, which takes effect at the end of the period they've paid for.
When to use it
- You service boilers, pools or lifts and want the yearly visit paid for monthly.
- A bookkeeper or marketer wants a fixed retainer in place of monthly invoices.
- A gym, club or studio charges a regular fee.
- Regulars keep asking for priority, and you could sell it to them.
What a good one includes
- A monthly and yearly option if cash flow matters, each as its own plan.
- What each plan includes, written as things the member gets.
- Limits stated in the list, such as 'parts and labour up to $300'. Open-ended promises get expensive.
- How billing and cancelling work, in the footer, before they join.
- A tagline that tells people who a plan is for.
Make one by saying what you need
Text it, type it or say it, the way you'd tell a colleague:
Membership for Summit Pool Care: Basic $49 a month, Plus $89 a month, Plus yearly $890, cancel any time.
Questions
Do I need Stripe for this?
Yes. Subscriptions run on your own Stripe account, so the page can't take members until it's connected.
How do members cancel?
They use the link shown after joining, which is also emailed to them. It cancels at the end of the period they've paid for.
What's the difference between a membership and a retainer?
Mainly the wording. A membership usually sells access or perks, and a retainer usually reserves someone's time, but both bill on a schedule.
